Janet Devlin’s boyfriend has accused the X Factor of being a marketing ploy rather than a genuine singing competition.

Brendan Sally (17), who “hates the show”, revealed that he does not agree with Simon Cowell’s TV series and only watched it for his girlfriend — who was booted off last night.

“It presents itself as a music show that wants to find musical talent, but I think really all it’s about is making money and finding someone they can manufacture and market, nothing else,” Brendan told the Herald.

The schoolboy vowed to support his girlfriend of almost one year until the end of the competition, but feels it is not the right way to go about making a career in the business.

“I’m not an X Factor fan, if Janet wasn’t in it, I certainly wouldn’t be watching it,” he said.

Despite Brendan’s issues with the series, he stood firmly by his girlfriend and even appeared with her in the video footage of her return to Omagh last week, which was shown on Saturday prior to her performance.

Throughout the series, Brendan reassured Janet (17) about her song choices and the importance of being herself on the show.

“I’ve always been very anti-X Factor and I’ve told her my reasons why, so obviously she’s able to take that on board and integrate that into how she approaches the whole experience,” he said.

Even though Janet Devlin struggled during her “X Factor” performance on Saturday, it was actually several days before that when this season’s onetime favorite believed that she was going to be the one going home.

Speaking in a new interview with the ITV series “Daybreak,” Devlin had this to say about just when she first felt she was in major trouble:

“I knew I was going home from Wednesday. You just know. Thinking negatively could have affected my performance, but you know when you’re going to go that you’re going to go. You’re time is up eventually.”

Ultimately, Janet feels as though she accomplished her main goal of being on the show — she was “herself,” and she never compromised that in order to be a “puppet” to anyone else in the competition.

Are you going to miss someone like Janet on this show moving forward?

Since being booted off the X Factor last weeked (and let’s just say it, booted off by Kelly in the end wasn’t she? Could have said Misha and begged Gary to say Misha so it would go to deadlock… but whatevs) Janet Devlin has been chirping on about how she was actually fed up of being a puppet and singing covers, and that it’s not a problem that she’s been kicked off.

“I’ve been kicked off a big TV show but that’s not the end of life,” she told Metro.

“God, people are making it such a huge bloody deal – it’s like life goes on.

“I’m glad Misha stayed – I’m not even going to lie. I’m glad she did because she is so deserving of being there. She works so hard, she wants it so bad. She’s got more of an edge.

“It was my time to go.”

There’s been a lot of talk suggesting that Janet’s sweet nature was actually all an act for the cameras, and that behind the scenes she was really a bit of a brat. Responding to those rumours, Janet has said that she’s “not X Factor material.”

‘I’m a loner. I’m always going to be a bit of a loner but I’m cool with that.

“It’s not my fault I’m hard to get on with sometimes and hard to get a good conversation out of.”

Are you sad that Janet left the X Factor? Do you think Misha should have gone instead? Did you even want those two in the sing-off? SPILL.

Janet Devlin is glad she was booted off ‘The X Factor’ because she felt like she was becoming a “karaoke artist”.

The 16-year-old singer was voted off the ITV1 talent show last night (27.11.11) – after finding herself in the bottom two alongside Mischa B – but insists she’s pleased to have left the competition because she hated what she was being made to do every Saturday.

She said: “To me the sad thing about ‘X Factor’ is that it’s brought me down a lot, I was just covering other people’s songs and it got to the point that I just felt like a karaoke artist every Saturday night.”

Janet – who forgot the words to Hanson’s ‘MMMBop’ during Saturday’s (26.11.11) show – now “can’t wait” to get back to performing her “own music”, and claims she isn’t even bothered about remaining in the public eye.

She added in an interview with ITV1′s ‘Lorraine’: “I just can’t wait to get into a studio and do my own music and if it goes well and the people like it that’s great, or if it turns into music that I like and it goes underground, it’s completely fine.

“As long as I have the opportunity to do gigs and play my music and people enjoy it. That’s what I want.”

This year’s X Factor betting is about as predictable as a wasp on speed. All four remaining acts have at one stage or other been the bookies favourite to win the show but it’s Tulisa’s girl group ‘Little Mix’ that are now heading the betting in the penultimate week.

Irish bookmakers Paddy Power have made the teenage foursome their 11/8 favourites to be crowned this year’s X Factor winners, closely followed by Scouse hair crimper Marcus Collins at 6/4. Amelia Lily is third in the betting at 5/1 followed lastly by Misha B at 10/1.

Despite bowing out of the competition on Sunday night, Irish songstress Janet Devlin still has a bright future ahead of her according to Paddy Power who are quoting just 7/4 that the Tyrone red-head will have a Number 1 single in Ireland next year. It’s also just 10/1 that she’ll perform a duet with the legendary Elton John.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “This year’s X Factor is just too close for comfort. Little Mix are the favourites going into the semi final week but we’re seeing money right across the board for all the acts. It’s definitely the most unpredictable series of X Factor we’ve seen yet!”

Janet Devlin has claimed that she would never have performed a Nirvana song on The X factor, because she wouldn’t have wanted to insult Kurt Cobain’s memory.

Courtney Love recently contacted show boss Simon Cowell on Twitter, asking him to give the Northern Irish teenager one of her late husband’s songs to sing on the ITV show, however Devlin said it would never have worked.

She told The Daily Star:

“I would never sing a Nirvana song on this show.”

“I wouldn’t have wanted Kurt Cobain to be turning in his grave.

“I respect him so much, so I wouldn’t do that.”

The talented teen recently admitted that she never got to express her real ‘artistry’ on The X Factor and felt very much like a karaoke singer each weekend.

Last night she jetted back home to Ireland for a short break, before continuing with her promotional duties but before going she said:

“I could have been a puppet and lasted longer but I wanted to be myself. The X Factor got me down. Singing someone else’s songs every week made me feel like a karaoke artist. I wish we were given more opportunity to be a musicians and express our artistry.”

Janet Devlin may have only just left The X Factor, but the teenager has already been offered a record deal. The 17-year-old has received an offer from the music label co-owned by Dragons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne.

RKA Records has been quick off the mark by offering X Factor star Janet a lucrative deal less than 24 hours after she was voted off of the show.

Co-owner & Founder of the label, Ryan Ashmore, said yesterday: “With Janet’s amazing talent and great image I just had to put my offer out there. She is destined for success and I’m sure RKA and Janet can have a great relationship and achieve great things together”

Reality TV guru and talent agent, Dean ‘Midas’ Maynard, who has been backing & promoting Janet since her audition, said: “I think this is fantastic news for Janet, her family and all of her loyal supporters because it proves how popular and talented she is.

“There is always demand for an artist that shows true, raw talent, and the future will definitely be bright, beyond the X Factor. She has the tour to enjoy first, then she will weigh up her options, choosing the right path when the time is right.”

Unfortunately it’ll be sometime before we know whether Janet takes up this offer, or any others, with the finalists still under contract until the end of the tour next year.
