Beats answering the phone for five minutes!

Workers at a Preston call centre took time out to watch a teenage X Factor finalist perform.

Janet Devlin, 17, from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, appeared in the canteen of Talk Talk, Balcarres Road, Ashton, yesterday.

Dressed in burgundy tights, denim shorts, a jumper and Dr Martens boots, the youngster sang four songs including her X Factor audition ‘Your Song’ by Elton John and ‘Cosmic Love’ by Florence and the Machine.

Before performing her first song, ‘Sleeping Sickness’ by Canadian singer Dallas Green, during which she played the guitar, Janet said: “Probably no-one has ever heard of it but that’s my music unfortunately.”

She also sang ‘I Don’t Love You’ by My Chemical Romance and signed autographs for fans.

Linzi Gallacher, 32, from Ingol, and Natalie Salisbury, 27, from Ashton, were among the dozens of staff who watched the performance.

Linzi said: “She’s got a good voice, it’s original. I thought it was really good.”

Natalie said: “It’s a good opportunity to see someone you probably wouldn’t get to see. She has got a unique voice. I really liked the last song (Cosmic Love) and the audition song.”

Janet was the fourth X Factor finalist the pair had seen perform at the call centre, following Diana Vickers, Jamie ‘Afro’ Archer and Paije Richardson.

Speaking after leaving the show on Sunday, Janet said: “What I sing and what music I like is not the X Factor. What I bring to my own music is the music that I like, which is quite underground.”
